Men Are Made

Men are made:
By the past, by the present.
By the circumstance, by the environment,
By the specialities of nation, state and place of abode.

Men are made:
In factories, offices, farmyards, or institutions,
Smudged with colourful
opinions,
In different shade.

Men are made
By the need, by the chance,
By the bitter experience,
By the hour of favorable episode.

Men are made
Men who practice injustice,
Men who condemn the unrighteous,
Men who are stupid,
Egoistic, obeying or wise;
In changing social customs, fair or otherwise.

Men are made
In pursuit of ideals
And against the ideals,
In battlefields of relevance,
By the knowhow of deliberate strategics.
Men are made.

This free verse is a translation of what my friend Sri Sowbhagya penned in Telugu, and published in a poetry compilation titled "Krityadyavastha". Many thanks to him for the kind permission to translate it. Here 'men' connotes humans, in general.
